Richard Devick – Founder & Partner
The origins of this family-owned business dates back to 1935 in New York when Sy Devick (my father) was hired as a 20 year old apprentice paint salesman for Bear Brothers paints (a company where my grandfather was already working as a salesman).
After being discharged from the army (WWII) Sy decided he didn’t want to work for anyone and started his own paint manufacturing business in New Jersey specializing in hi-performance industrial coatings. He was proud that one item was used by NASA.
In 1968 he sold the business and moved to sunny south Florida. Shortly thereafter he began making paint in a small garage and selling it from the house that was on site. He was determined to make the best architectural paints specifically formulated for our unique tropical climate. I worked in that garage when home on vacation from college learning how to make paint and production procedures.
In 1977, after graduating from the University of Florida, I began my tenure at UCI, my father passed away a few years later. Using the entrepreneurial spirit that I must have inherited from my father UCI has grown to a 30,000 square foot facility off I-95 just north of Sunrise Blvd. and has earned the reputation of making the best quality, longest lasting exterior paints for use in our unique tropical climate, bar none.
Currently, my son Sam who is a 3rd generation, is working part time while at college, with the intentions of following is his grandfather’s footsteps.
To conjunction with our superior products, we pre-qualified a few of our areas quality minded painting contractors. Therefore, we offer an unprecedented warranty that includes faulty application and faulty workmanship. We offer a more thorough warranty than that of the national paint companies to provide our local customers with an educated decision when selecting what product or what contractor to use. We are continuously updating our qualified contractor, removing and adding as required by their job performance.
